Conditions guidance only. Cliffs are dangerous — never dig in or stand near them.
Check tide times locally and tell someone where you're going.
Safety page
At low water the flat ledges show huge coiled ammonites in the rock — bring a camera, not a hammer. For keepers, search the loose shingle and boulder gaps along the tideline where smaller ammonites and oysters wash free.
What fossils look like here
Giant ammonites — some nearly a metre across — sit in the flat ledges: photograph them, they must stay. Loose finds are smaller ammonites, ridged oysters and occasional dark, dense reptile bone. Identification help: Watchet Market House Museum (seasonal), or photograph finds for a museum enquiry.
Small car park at the end of Sea Lane, Kilve Pill.
Facilities
Seasonal tea room near the car park; no facilities on the beach.
Access
Short flat walk from the car park onto boulders and ledges.
Hazards
Huge Bristol Channel tidal range — the sea returns faster than walking pace over the flat ledges. Cliff falls along the whole stretch; boulders are very slippery.
